Tierra del Sol Gallery Unveils ‘Taking Up Space’
at Its New West Hollywood Location
The New Venue Will Host the Organization’s Annual All Tierra Group Show

Tierra del Sol Gallery is announcing Taking Up Space, the first show in their new West Hollywood location from November 11th to December 23rd, 2023. This inaugural exhibition invites every artist from Tierra del Sol’s Upland and Sunland Studio Arts Programs to contribute a single 18 x 12 inch work of any medium.
Tierra del Sol studios have been working with artists on submissions for this third annual group show. Taking Up Space will provide Tierra artists an opportunity for growth and celebration of their shared goals. The inaugural West Hollywood show will empower artists to derive meaning and pleasure from making work that is legible and impactful to one’s own community.
Last year, a staggering 100 artists participated in the landmark show 10 x 10. This year, the artists submitted titles for the exhibition, then voted on their favorites. The title Taking Up Space holds profound meaning and is a testament to the communal nature of the gallery and artists. Under the leadership of gallery director Paige Wery, Tierra del Sol is shaping the landscape of diversity and equity in the commercial art world at large, museums and arts institutions, as well as through collaborations with production companies, brands and more. Taking Up Space shows these artists know their lives and creativity contribute to the greater good.
Tierra del Sol Gallery’s move to West Hollywood marks an important milestone in the organization’s evolution. The new neighborhood is home to other important local and international galleries including Karma, Nino Mier, François Ghebaly, Jeffrey Deitch, Regen Projects, Tanya Bonakdar and Hauser & Wirth. The new location allows Tierra artists to exhibit work next to some of their best-known peers in the global art scene. Taking Up Space heralds Tierra del Sol’s ongoing presence and increasing value across multiple communities.
Tierra artists are included in important public and private collections that have historically been dominated by renowned artists from the gallery’s new neighbors. Patrons and admirers of aesthetics recognize Tierra’s vital efforts to ensure the art world remains curious, generous, and inclusive.
“The transition is an opportunity to take up more space for what Tierra del Sol believes in,” says Tierra del Sol Foundation Executive Director Rebecca Lienhard. “The purchase of Tierra del Sol’s new gallery was made possible largely in part through a generous gift from The John Gogian Family Foundation, whose on-going support serves more than 800 individuals Tierra serves each day through over 150 valued partnerships in the Greater Los Angeles Area.”
The new West Hollywood Tierra del Sol Gallery is twice the size of the prior Chinatown space, enabling Wery and the Studio Arts Program to expand the possibilities for artists and the neighborhood. A gallery store, reading lounge and accessible bathrooms are some of the features that artists and visitors can experience.
Taking Up Space opens November 11 and runs through December 23 with an opening celebration on November 11, 6-8 pm.
The gallery’s new location at 7414 Santa Monica Blvd. will have open hours Tuesday through Saturday, 11 am to 6 pm or by appointment.
