An integral part of the larger Tierra del Sol Foundation, Tierra del Sol Gallery exhibits work created in our unique and innovative art studios. For 30 years, Tierra del Sol Gallery has propelled countless artists into the world of contemporary art. All sales go directly to supporting the artists as well as the foundation, which provides studio space, career support, and materials for artists to craft their work.

Tierra del Sol Foundation is a not-for-profit founded in 1971. We champion inclusion and value for all individuals with disabilities through creative pathways to employment, education, and the arts.

Douglas Allen (b.1954) has been making art at the studios of Tierra del Sol since 2009. Allen works in a variety of media to build intimate cityscapes using a psychedelic pallet. The prominent feature of his compositions are detailed diesel trucks, which he creates from memory. “I’ve always wanted to be a truck driver, but I know that’s impossible, so I draw them instead,” says Allen. When he’s not making art he enjoys spending time with his dogs.

Allen has shown his work professionally in the Los Angeles area since 2009. His professional experience includes curating Microcosmic: Los Angeles at the Center of the Universe, Los Angeles City Hall BridgeGallery, Los Angeles, California, in 2013. Additionally, for this exhibition, Allen made a public presentation to the Mayor and City Leaders of Los Angeles at Los Angeles City Hall launch celebration of the Special Olympic World Games that was broadcast on KTLA Channel 5 News.

Jose Hernandez, born in 1991 in Sylmar, California, has worked as a studio artist at Tierra del Sol since 2014. Hernandez creates pictures, mostly with colored pencils, that focus on the fantastic worlds of anime, professional wrestling and superheroes. His characters are depicted with well-defined musculature, fierce expressions, and bold poses, all in his unique and distinctive style. His compositions, full of characters, patterns, colors, and detailed imagery, surge with energy and intensity. The dense and detailed character-filled scenes of Hernandez’s art are dramatic and extraordinary.

Marlena Arthur was born in Los Angeles in 1994 and has been making art since childhood. She joined Tierra del Sol’s art studios in 2016. Marlena is a prolific multidisciplinary artist who paints, draws, sculpts, and makes textiles. Much of Marlena’s work centers around unique characters of her own design, influenced by a combination of My Little Pony, Equestrian Girls, and Tim Burton. The original stories regarding these characters are about friendship, adventure, camping, and teamwork. Marlena’s love of art is palpable, whether she’s drawing a color wheel of personality traits, sculpting a grinning bear with a honey pot, or knitting a pom-pom hat. “Making art makes me happy.”–Marlena Arthur
