John Lund

John Lund (b. 1983) began making visual art a few years before joining the Tierra del Sol Studios in 2008. John’s powerful drawings and paintings are recognizable by his energetic, bold and generous marks. He weaves together dense layers of color and line that abstractly reference natural environments.  A color fields of layered grasses or animal forms slowly emerge into focus and fill these compositions. To build these works, John uses a variety of graphite pencils, color pencils, markers and water-based paint on paper. When asked about what inspires his art making, John says that he likes to focus on animals and people. He also shares that he truly enjoys when others respond to his works. John likes to work from life and also selects images from books and magazines saying, “I draw what I see”.
