Michael LeVell

Michael LeVell began making art in Tierra del Sol’s art studio program in 1989.  LeVell’s two and three-dimensional works are inspired by his deep appreciation of architectural imagery. While legally blind, LeVell is a connoisseur of magazine Architectural Digest. He studies the periodical’s images closely, then reduces the architectural gaze to its most salient lines and forms. LeVell moves easily between works on paper and sculpture. In similarity to the works of other visually impaired artists, LeVell presents an intuitive spatial awareness that offers the viewer a glimpse into an abstracted articulation of the world around us. LeVell’s work has been shown extensively, including a solo show at White Columns, NY in 2018.

Tierra del Sol Gallery

A strong and vibrant community is one in which all of its members contribute to the strengths and assets for the common good. Tierra’s mission is to empower people with disabilities to fulfill their potential and desire to become productive citizens who are accepted, included and valued for the contributions they make to the economic, civic, and cultural vitality of the community. We are actively working towards the day when people with any type of disability are fully recognized as an integral part of our community – as neighbors, co-workers, and contributors.
