10×10: 100 Artists of Tierra del Sol
Opening Reception: Saturday, November 12th, 6-9 pm
On View November 12th – December 23rd, 2022
Tierra del Sol Gallery presents 10 x 10, a massive group exhibition featuring submissions from nearly all Tierra del Sol Studio program participants. This exhibition continues the gallery’s annual tradition to showcase the collective energy that makes our organization vital to communities from Upland to Sunland and beyond.
The mission of Tierra’s Careers in the Arts program is for people with disabilities to be part of the larger community through robust studio practices, encouraging participants to find their voice through art. Artists in the program live all over Los Angeles County and Southern California, bring- ing multiple perspectives, ideas, and aesthetics into conversation with each other and enriching the collective creative energy of the studio as a result.
Like Tierra’s 2021 Zines del Sol extravaganza, 10 x 10 features the entire Tierra del Sol Studio Arts program. One hundred artists from both the Upland and Sunland Studios are represented. These sites offer intensive making opportunities in painting, drawing, ceramics, textiles, and digital art, each of these media programs can be experienced in the exhibition.
While the gallery focuses primarily on solo exhibitions and small group shows, Director Paige Wery aims to start a tradition that highlights all the participants. She notes, “This exhibition is exciting because it offers everyone a chance to be shown in the gallery at the same time. Putting such a large group of artists in direct dialogue with one another showcases the breadth and depth of our pro- gramming, as well as provides a comprehensive introduction to our larger community in Chinatown.”
Inspired by ICA’s Incognito, the egalitarian approach behind 10 x 10 is emblematic of Tierra del Sol’s mission. Every object is priced at or near $250. The 10 x 10 exhibition extends an invitation to see favorite artists from the Studios as well as discover new visual voices.
A collaboration at this scale encourages artists to engage art as a means to make a lasting impact on their own lives, as well as the lives of others. 10 x 10 is an opportunity for all of Tierra del Sol’s artists to share a small part of their rich, interior worlds. This glimpse alludes to the creativity, comradery, and potential abundant at the studios of Tierra del Sol.
10 x 10 opens with a public reception on Saturday, November 12th, from 6-9 pm at the Tierra del Sol Gallery in Chinatown, Los Angeles. The exhibition will be on view through December 23rd, 2022.
